Pills, Eat by Hannah Retallick

‘Swallow it!’ said Tony’s dad, with growing desperation. ‘Eat it, now.’

Tony’s face changed when it began to dissolve. The powdery pill had stuck to the roof of his mouth. In that moment, how he missed the sugary, strawberry syrup! That was medication worth getting ill for.

‘Here, drink more. You can do it.’

Powerless against the stream of water, the pill finally dislodged. Tony grinned. ‘Daddy, I did it!’

‘Good job!’

It was bitter, yes, but now he really was the ‘big guy’ his dad had always called him. That was what really mattered. His Calpol days were over.
