Signs of Spring by Vivienne Moles

‘Why are you even here?’ said The Mad March Hare, glancing at the disparate line-up.

‘Because I look cute on cards,’ said The Easter Bunny, preening himself. ‘Why are they here?’ he said, pointing to the fluffy yellow chicks, deflecting the hare’s aggression elsewhere.

‘Well, they have a purpose. When they grow up, they’ll be dinner,’ said the hare. The bunny contemplated this idea.

‘You don’t think I’d do?’ he said, aggrieved by his lack of usefulness but unaware of the implications. The hare sighed.

‘They’ll never learn!’ he said as a child bit the head off the chocolate bunny.
